Industry News
Well, what can we say. The 2008-09 geophysical season was a huge bust in both Alberta and British Columbia. In fact, it wasn’t a good season on a global scale. Lets hope things improve for the 2009-10 season.
The British Columbia Oil & Gas Commission has made several changes to the geophysical application process through out this past winter/spring season. Among the changes are new OGC application fees.
Commencing April 1, 2009, an application for a geophysical exploration project under section 3 of the Geophysical Exploration Regulation is subject to an application fee of $1,650. A fee of $700 must be submitted with any change to an original application.
Clarification notes:
a. Applications for geophysical exploration projects under section 3 of the Geophysical Exploration Regulation are subject to an application fee of $1,650.
b. An amendment fee of $700 must be submitted with any change to an original geophysical project application.
c. Any change to the original geophysical project application shall be considered an “Amendment” for the purposes of the fee schedule.
At the discretion of the Commission minor changes or revision resulting from consultation and/or negotiation efforts during the pre-approval review stage will not be subject to the amendment fee. Correspondence from the Commission’s Operations staff acknowledging that the amendment fee does not apply must be attached to the change / revision documentation filed with the Commission.
d. Any change to an approved geophysical project application shall be considered an “Amendment” for the purposes of the fee schedule.
New PRX Technology:
Near the end of the 08-09 season the OGC implemented a new Fibre Utilization form required by all industry to complete as mandated by the Ministry of Environment. This form is an approximation of merchantable and non- merchantable timber types impacted by field construction.
This process can and will be a very time consuming process if industry is going to make any effort to supply the OGC & the Ministry of Environment with a reasonable accurate estimation. The costs of this process alone will add several hours of tedious work which will be passed onto the clients.
The PRX team, seeing the necessity for accuracy in all aspects of our work for our clients and the government began working on a solution to assemble accurate information in a manner which would not affect additional costs to our clients. We therefore spent several weeks developing the Fibre Utilization Generator. We are now able to provide nearly 100% accurate information using the Ministry supplied Forest Vegetation data sets. What would have taken days to produce now only takes us a few minutes.
